Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous silicate mineral. It was widely used in construction and other industries until the late 1990s for such purposes as insulation, flooring, roofing, as well as being sprayed on ceilings and walls.
However, use of it stopped in the late 1990s when the risks of it became understood: Unfortunately asbestos can cause serious lung conditions due to the small particles it releases when damaged or disturbed.
Removing asbestos is a costly practice and requires removal by trained professionals.
